What I Believe in Learning Singing……

To me as a teacher in music, the most important things in my studio are trust, confidence, and sustainability. It is my practice to create a safe environment in my studio to help build trusting relationships so that students can talk to me about anything that concerns them, whether it is about repertoire, their interests, or anything that could affect their passion for music.

Building confidence for the student is a crucial part of my teaching. I want my students to have confidence in the uniqueness of their voices. This can achieved through exploration and solidification of their techniques, as well as musicianship. In lessons, I focus on breathing, posture, language, resonance, vocal agility; Stage presence, interpretation, listening to other singers, and how to read music.

I talk about sustainability in singing as it applies to the longevity of a singer’s career, both in the short-term and long-term. It is important to me that students have a solid foundation of vocal technique and their own personal mental health acumen, as both play a critical role in becoming a successful performer. I want to give students the tools they can use when they are practicing on their own and to help them develop their practice routine, including how they manage their own practice time efficiently. Also, goal setting is a huge part of my teaching. By setting a long-term goal, the student and I could work as a team to have the motivation and see themselves progress over time.
